Where should we look?

This search needs JavaScript to measure distances in your browser. Without it, the state pages below carry the same funeral homes and the same figures.

Where the work stands today

We do not choose who appears. A funeral home is here because it posts a price list and we have read it, and no one can pay to be included or left out. We are still reading price lists for thousands more.

There are 22,992 funeral homes operating today across all 50 states and the District of Columbia, by the state rosters, and 2,355 are published here so far.

Three guides on reading a price list

  • How to read a funeral home's price list A line by line walkthrough of a funeral home's general price list, what you can decline, and how to build the number you'll actually pay.
  • Comparing two funeral price lists What a package really is, why the casket sits on its own list, and the method for building the same arrangement out of two different price lists so the totals actually mean something.
  • The practical questions families actually ask What happens first when someone dies, who moves the body, how long a cremation takes, whether you can witness it, and what to do when the death is out of state. Short answers, one page.
