This table opens sorted by state name, A to Z, and any column heading reorders it; the median heading puts the least expensive first. A state still collecting has no median to sort on, so in that order it sits below every state that has one in either direction, and it says so rather than showing a blank. A state where the law does not allow a method says that instead. A state gets a median once 3 reviewed price lists in it post the service, because a figure that one list can move is not a median. A state's median is the middle of the figures the homes in it show, so it carries the same county fees and the same one certified copy those figures carry.

Published counts the homes whose figures a licensed funeral professional has read against their own documents and approved. A state that says still collecting is one where that review has not finished yet.

Median by state

Least expensive $1,785

Most expensive $4,610

Each state is shaded by its median price, lighter for less expensive and darker for more expensive, in the dollar steps the key on the map shows. Point at a state to see its median. The shade says nothing about any one funeral home, and nothing else on this map is colored by price. A state with no median yet is hatched and marked still collecting. The small quiet dots are funeral homes we know of with no price shown yet. Open one to see what we hold for it and how to ask the home for its price list. A filled count gathers homes that have figures. A hollow count gathers homes with no price shown. The two are never added together.

How to read this map
Pick a service Switching the service redraws every pin and the shading of every state at once.
Pick a state The map zooms to that state without leaving this page, and its funeral homes appear as pins carrying each home's name and its figure.
Homes across a state line A published home within 30 miles of the line is drawn on both states' views, carrying the abbreviation of the state it's in.
Where a home posts nothing A funeral home that posts no price list still has a page here, and that page says where we looked and what we found.
Shaded only where the evidence carries it A state is shaded once 3 reviewed price lists in it post the service. Below that, a single document could move the median, and a median one document can move isn't a median.
Ownership said carefully A home is marked family owned or part of a corporate group only where a record we can cite says so. Where no record does, the page carries no mark rather than a guess.
More dispositions Aquamation and terramation stay off until you ask for them, under More dispositions, and they're only there where the state's law allows them.

The table is always one tap away Map and Table show the same states and the same homes. Nothing on this page can be reached only through the map.
